ਇਸਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਬਾਗਵਾਨੀ ਅਨੁਸੰਧਾਨ ਸੰਸਥਾਨ ( IIHR ) ਨੇ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ । ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਟਮਾਟਰ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਨਵੀਂ ਉਂਨਤਸ਼ੀਲ ਕਿੱਸਮ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਰਕਾ ਰਕਸ਼ਕ(Arka Rakshak) ਹੈ ।
ਇਸ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਤੋੜ ਉਪਜ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਕਿਸਮ ਨੇ ਟਮਾਟਰ ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਲਚਲ ਮਚਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ । ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕਰਨਾਟਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਮਾਟਰ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਹੇਕਟੇਅਰ ਔਸਤ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ 35 ਟਨ ਹੈ , ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਅਰਕਾ ਰਕਸ਼ਕ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਤੀ ਦੀ ਟਮਾਟਰ ਦਾ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਹੇਕਟੇਅਰ 190 ਟਨ ਤੱਕ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।ਨਵੀਂ ਕਿੱਸਮ ਦੇ ਟਮਾਟਰ ਦੇ ਬੂਟੇ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ । ਕਈ ਕਿਸਾਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਇਸਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਉਪਜ ਵੀ ਪਾ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ ।
ਚਿੱਕਬੱਲਪੁਰ ਜਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਚੰਦਰਾਪੱਪਾ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ 2000 ਟਮਾਟਰ ਦੇ ਬੂਟੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੱਧੇ ਏਕਡ਼ ਦੇ ਖੇਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਾਕੇ 38 ਟਨ ਟਮਾਟਰ ਦੀ ਉਪਜ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਇੰਨੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਹੋਰ ਹਾਈਬ੍ਰਿਡ ਟਮਾਟਰ ਦੇ ਬੂਟੇ ਤੋਂ 20 ਟਨ ਦਾ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਹੀ ਲੈ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ ।
ਡਾ ਸਦਾਸ਼ਿਵ ਦੇ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਇਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉੱਚ ਉਪਜ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਤੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਸਗੋਂ ਟਮਾਟਰ ਦੇ ਬੂਟਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਤੋਂ ਸਫਲਤਪੂਰਵਕ ਲੜਨ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ । ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸਤੋਂ ਕੀਟਨਾਸ਼ਕੋਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਖਰਚ ਦੀ ਬਚਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਟਮਾਟਰ ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਦੀ ਲਾਗਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਸ ਫੀਸਦੀ ਤੱਕ ਦੀ ਕਮੀ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
ਇਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਗੂੜੇ ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਟਮਾਟਰ ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਦੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਹੋਰ ਫਾਇਦੇ ਵੀ ਹਨ । ਆਮ ਤੋਰ ਤੇ ਦੇ ਟਮਾਟਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਪਜ ਦੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਸਿਰਫ ਛੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ,ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਅਰਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਟਮਾਟਰ ਪੰਦਰਾਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਸੌਖ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਦੇ ਰੱਖੇ ਜਾ ਸੱਕਦੇ ਹਨ ।
